The Fontanafredda winery was established in 1858 when Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of a united Italy since the 6th century, acquired the Serralunga d’Alba estate. Today the winery, under the leadership of winemaker Danilo Drocco and viticulturist Alberto Grasso, has 120 hectares of vines in the communes of Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo and Diano d’Alba in the heart of the hills of Barolo. Vittorio Emanuele’s heritage - the hunting lodge, country village, large cellars and vineyards - have been preserved intact, and the company continues to innovate and experiment, perfecting what nature and history have already provided.
